Carolyne Nurse (Fundraising Development Officer)
How did you get your job?
I had been working part-time for the Society as events officer for six months and it became clear that the fundraising department needed to grow. I changed roles at the beginning of May.
What does your role involve?
Everything! I am reviving individual giving, supporting our existing donors, creating links with businesses, raising awareness of autism in schools and developing new community events. The only area I am not touching is trust applications as they are handled by another team member.
Did you choose the voluntary sector or did it choose you?I chose it after almost 20 years in journalism and public relations.
What's good about your job?
That I have almost a blank canvas and can bring my previous experience to help a charity which is ready to aim high once again. The supporters are great and I am proud of the work that is done by our staff and delighted I can finally tell the world about it!
....and bad?
So much to do, so little time!
What would make your job easier?
Wings - to fly between our services and our supporters so I do not have to miss anything.
Most important lesson learned?
Trust your instincts - but get them backed up with evidence.
Is this a job for life?
Could be but I hope to reach targets far sooner.
Who would be your ideal boss?
My daughter because she would question everything I suggest and make me think harder.
