About The Job

Our people are at the heart of the organisation and this role supports our team through all aspects of their time with Four Square. The postholder will oversee recruitment, deliver organisation inductions, support managers, monitor and arrange skills training and help deliver our payroll function. The role will have lead responsibility in delivering our organisational development programme Impactful People.

This is varied role working across our services and social enterprise which comprises of over 100 staff, volunteers, and students on placement. The postholder will gain exposure to a wide range of HR aspects and will play a key role in supporting the team.

All Four Square employees must complete a Basic Disclosure and provide evidence of the outcome when received from Disclosure Scotland.

Main Responsibilities

• Oversee recruitment, onboarding and deliver organisational inductions to new staff;
• Oversight and maintenance of the HR database, including producing regular reports to provide KPIs as well as ad-hoc reports when requested;
• Responsible for the administration of the employee assistance programme;
• Produce payroll reports for monthly payroll;
• Work with managers in handling employee relations matters including, investigations disciplinary or grievance issues, providing appropriate and timely support and maintaining appropriate records;
• Provide support to Director of HR and Corporate Services on relevant HR matters and support the delivery of Impactful People, our Organisational Development programme
• Produce a monthly staff newsletter, supporting the culture and providing information to all our staff;
• Able to step in to support business critical functions in the central team when required (full training provided);
• Conduct exit interviews and collate data on reasons for leaving;
• Any other tasks which support the HR and payroll functions within Four Square.

• At least three years’ experience of working in HR and ideally a qualification in HR, working towards a qualification.

This is a key role in the organisation supporting the Chief Executive and Leadership Team (LT) to execute and deliver the strategy. You will be a highly visible and pivotal member of the team arranging support and access to the LT and the Board of Directors. You will report to the Director of HR and Corporate Services, supporting the CEO and others with a range of diverse tasks and activities.

• Proactive management of CEO and Leadership Team (LT) diaries. While acting as first point of contact for those seeking the CEO, diverting requests as appropriate.

• Manage key governance documentation and KPI information.

Do you want to help us in our mission to prevent homelessness in Edinburgh but don’t want to commit to regular working hours?

We have casual working opportunities for Relief Practitioners across our services in Edinburgh.

What do we do?

Keymoves is our safe refuge for women 16+ who have experienced gender-based violence, including domestic abuse. While living at Keymoves, women can access 1:1 and group support that helps them recover from their experiences and feel empowered to move on to having their own home in a community.

Stopover is a supported accommodation for young people aged 16-25. Young people can get holistic support that will help them set up their own homes within a community and achieve their goals.

No. 20 provides supported accommodation to young women aged 16-25. Everyone gets their own keyworker, and together they design a bespoke support plan to help them successfully move on to a home within a community.

In MySpace, we provide 18 supported living flats for people aged 16-25 who have moved on from our supported accommodation.

Alongside our services, we have a social enterprise collecting furniture and other household goods. We use the donations to furnish our accommodation beautifully and also sell them to raise money for the services.

We are currently recruiting a Senior Practitioner for our Young Persons Accommodation Services, Stopover, where we provide 24 hour support for 18 young people in a recently renovated building in the heart of Edinburgh.

The Role:

The role of Senior Practitioner is vital to help us achieve our aim of ensuring everyone has a home, a place in their community and a network of positive relationships that support them to build the life they want.

Senior Practitioners support a team of Practitioners in developing relationships, often with people who have experienced a great deal of adversity and trauma and for whom having trust in others can be difficult. Senior Practitioners use their skills in coaching and motivating to help Practitioners recognise their own strengths and work with them to build their confidence, resilience and motivation to undertake their role to the highest quality.

Alongside supporting staff, Senior Practitioners are part of the team and work directly with people using services supporting them in the way they wish to build the life they want.

Main duties and responsibilities:

• To be a role model for the team in the application of Four Square values;
• Ensures Practitioners adhere to the SSSC Codes of Practice;
• Delivers the services in line with the Care Inspectorates Health and Social Care Standards;
• Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with people who use our services, colleagues and partners;
• Provides regular support, supervision and appraisal to the team;
• Supports social work students on placement acting as the Link Worker;
• Has a good understanding of supporting young people impacted by homelessness, trauma and adversity and ensures that the service and individual support is delivered to help young people recover from their experiences;
• Values and prioritises participation of the young people in the development of the service and wider work of the charity;
• Ensures the team stays up to date with current research and policy developments and works with the Head of Services to integrate these into practices;
• Can establish clear professional boundaries with the people we support and supports the team to demonstrate the same professionalism;
• Has a commitment to strengths based practice, delivering the service in a trauma-informed and person centred way;
• Has a commitment to their learning and development and putting this into practice and encourages the team to do the same;
• Is a reflective practitioner and an active participant in regular reflective practice group supervision;

Four Square are delighted to announce a brand new project that will provide group and 1:1 support to women using any of our social care services. To deliver this project we are seeking a dynamic, positive, qualified and experienced female professional who will lead and manage all aspects of the project from line management of students, volunteers and mentors to initial set up of the project Thrive, to delivery of the programme through to collating monitoring and evaluation data and programme improvement.

The Thrive project is a new service designed from consultation with women we support and our teams and will provide holistic group work and 1:1 support for women across our accommodation and visiting housing support services. Women may have been impacted any number of issues including homelessness, domestic abuse, addiction, childhood trauma, family breakdown, discrimination, sexual exploitation, mental and physical health issues poverty and isolation.

The Thrive Project programme in year 1 will include:

• Counselling services;
• Art therapy;
• Groups focusing on recovering from trauma; health and wellbeing; personal transformation; building social support networks; skills development; and making community connections;
• Advice and advocacy;
• Peer mentoring training;
• Supporting people to volunteer or take steps into employment, education or training.

Across the year the Manager will gather evidence of what works for women they support through consultation and feedback using this to develop the programme in subsequent years.

We are recruiting for a Springboard Project Coordinator!

An exciting opportunity has become available at Four Square Scotland. Four Square is a homeless charity operating in Edinburgh which provides support and accommodation to those experiencing, or at risk of experiencing homelessness. Our aim is to not only ensure everyone has a place to live but also has a place within their community.

This role involves continuing our very successful project, which provides a 7-week development and employability program to young people accessing our accommodation services. The program supports individuals to achieve vocational qualifications and volunteer within our social enterprise – Edinburgh Furniture Initiative. The role is varied and involves the day-to-day coordination and management of the project while supporting social work students to help facilitate the delivery of the program and individual support.

The roles:

These are unpaid voluntary positions;

• Board members are expected to attend five board meetings a year plus an away day;
• Board member may choose to be on any committees, such as the finance committee which also has 5 meetings a year;
• Board meetings and committee meetings are currently held on Tuesdays and Wednesday evenings. Away days are on Saturdays;

Skillset we need

We are looking for up to five board members with the following experience and skills:

General: we need open minded and resourceful board members who can support the scaling of our charity in terms of impact and quality delivery; those who have experience of change management; improving and developing organisations; using evidence-based approaches; challenging systems; spotting opportunities; and are analytical and curious about how to be an excellent organisation.

Specific: to support us to realise our strategic plan and our emerging ambitions, we need certain expertise on the board, which does however need to be relevant to running a board. We will buy in professional support and advice when we need it. What we are looking for in a board member is a person who knows enough about an area to ask the right questions and help us make good decisions. With this in mind, we are looking for:

• People with expertise around property development;
• People who have worked at a senior level in the charity sector;
• People with financial knowledge and expertise;
• People with expertise around fundraising, marketing and communications;
• People with retail experience;
• People with general business experience, particularly those who may have run their own business or businesses.

No direct experience of being on a board is needed. We are very open to hearing from first time applicants. Joining a Board and lending you time and expertise can be an amazing way to develop your strategic and leadership skills. A full training and induction process is in place and there are opportunities for mentoring from other board members.

The role of a trustee

Trustees have ultimate responsibility for directing the activity of the organisation, ensuring it is well run and that it is delivering the charitable objectives for which it has been set up.

All trustees undertake to actively govern the organisation, directing and controlling the organisation through collective decision-making and by:

• Determining Mission and Strategy – actively taking part in setting the organisation’s direction and determining how it will get there through the annual planning process and the business plan/strategic plan.

This service is commissioned by the City of Edinburgh Council in the South West of Edinburgh with the aim of preventing homelessness or to move on from homelessness. The role of Housing Support Practitioners will be to complete a holistic assessment with the person that produces a collaborative support plan with the aim to help people recognise their strengths which will build their confidence, self-efficacy, resilience, and motivation. Practitioners will use the Homelessness Star to develop this collaborative support plan that, alongside identifying areas of strength, addresses other areas of their lives people want to improve or change. We offer in-house training to all our staff on the use of the tool.

The role will require a degree of flexibility and contracts are Monday to Sunday working between 8 am and 10 pm to meet the needs of the people they support.

The person

• Be registered with SSSC or achieve registration within 6 months of starting;
• Be qualified in a relevant subject e.g. HNC social care etc. to SCQF7 as a minimum;

• Help people to become as independent as possible, making referrals to professionals and agencies who can support their longer-term;
• Ensuring people feel safe and secure in their home and community and act where they don’t;
• Advocate on behalf of people in a professional manner;
• Manage to safeguard concerns reporting to the appropriate authorities and recording clearly and succinctly actions and follow-up;
• Complete grant applications and benefits forms with the person, so they can do this themselves in the future, is possible.

The Role:

The role of Practitioner is vital to help us achieve our aim of ensuring everyone has a home, a place in their community and a network of positive relationships that support them to build the life they want.

Practitioners recognise people’s strengths and work alongside them to build their confidence, self-efficacy, resilience, and motivation. They help people develop practical skills, maximise income, develop healthier coping skills, problem solving skills, social skills, and employability skills.

Practitioners use a flexible approach to work with people using services ensuring they receive the support they want and need to have the best chance of getting and keeping a home and living their best life in a community.

To be a Practitioner within Four Square you will need:

We are looking for 2 x Senior Night Practitioners to work across all accommodation services supporting our Night Practitioner team. This is a brand-new role in Four Square.

The Role:

This role is a new role within Four Square and sits within the management team of the organisation. You will be the sole fundraiser for the charity, but will have scope to build a team and to draw on resources throughout the organisation.

Four Square has modernised and developed beyond recognition in the past three years. We have solid foundations in place and we are now in a position to grow our charity by scaling up the level of impact we have.

Fundraising is key to achieving this vision and we are looking for an individual who shares our passion, drive and enthusiasm for what we do.

Our current income streams are generated through the commissioned services we provide for the council; lottery funding; and the unrestricted income generated from our social enterprise. We want the successful candidate to focus initially on securing funding for some large-scale projects and then advising the Leadership Team on a fundraising strategy that will best support our strategic plan.

Trust and Foundations will be a key focus but we’d also like to pursue a new focus on corporate fundraising and major donor programmes.

Following a restructure and reimagination of how we will deliver housing support to people in the South West of Edinburgh we are looking for qualified, experienced, motivated people with a can-do attitude who have a commitment to using evidence based approaches to supporting people to join our team.

Sitting within our Visiting Support Service is our pilot project People First which we are delivering in collaboration with YPeople. This is a Lottery funded project that is trialing the use of a coaching model developed by the Mayday Trust in Scotland. Due to a vacancy opening up we are seeking a Housing Support Practitioner who can also temporarily fulfil the role of Asset Coach until the end of the funding period which is the 31st March 2022. The successful candidate will then work full time within the Housing Support team.

South West Visiting Housing Support Service

The role of Housing Support Practitioner/ Asset Coach in our Housing Support Service and People First Project is vital to help us achieve our aim of ensuring everyone has a home, a place in their community and a network of positive relationships and interests that support them to build the life they want. We work from a person-led, strength based and trauma informed approach to help people realise their goals, recover, connect with their communities and enjoy life.

This Housing Support service is commissioned by the City of Edinburgh Council in the South West of Edinburgh with the aim of preventing homelessness or to move on from homelessness. The People First project is funded by the National Lottery. Housing Support Practitioners will be to complete a holistic assessment with the person that produces a collaborative support plan with the aim to help people recognise their strengths which will build their confidence, self-efficacy, resilience, and motivation. Practitioners will use the Homelessness Star to develop this collaborative support plan that, alongside identifying areas of strength, addresses other areas of their lives people want to improve or change. Edinburgh Furniture Initiative is an established second-hand furniture store. Located in the centre of Edinburgh, EFI is one of Scotland’s largest re-use social enterprises.

Operating as part of Four Square, a charity supporting people who face homelessness, EFI provides an independent income stream for Four Square and operates with three main aims:

• to provide low cost, high quality furniture to people on low incomes;
• to provide employment and training opportunities for people who have been homeless or who are at risk of homelessness;
• and, to promote the re-use economy and prevent useable goods going into landfill.

Following a restructure as a result of changes to our business during Covid-19, we are looking for a creative, dynamic store manager who can combine good people and business skills with an eye for design and an entrepreneurial approach. We want to make EFI a flagship for the re-use economy and build a sustainable social enterprise that will integrate and support the wider charity as we progress towards our vision of supporting everyone to have a home and their place in the community.

The right person is someone who has the vision and capacity to plan the service; set and meet targets; and motivate and support a varied staff team; and work in partnership with likeminded organisations.

The person appointed will also be joining at an exciting time where we are planning a move to a new store and a large-scale refurbishment programme at our storage warehouse. You will have the opportunity to input into how the store looks and how it is set out and really see EFI grow into the business it can be.

The job

Day to day, you will manage the shop staff; office staff; shop warehouse team; and volunteers. You’ll work closely with your colleague the Team Leader in the warehouse to ensure the shop is filled with the right stock; and the collections are being managed well. You’ll oversee our team of volunteers; our sales team; warehouse staff; and phone team; as well as young people coming into the organisation through the Kickstart Jobs Scheme. Your team will be 4 full time staff across a weekday and a weekend; up to 4 young people; and up to 4 volunteers a day. The main functions of the role are:

1. Plan the work of the team to ensure the targets are met; the team are supported and provide excellent customer service and high performance
2. Be an ambassador for Four Square and build relationship with key external organisation including regulators and accreditors, partners, funders and the wider social enterprise community.
3. Oversee the stock, ensuring enough stock is coming into the store; is of high quality and sells well; and that stock is managed on the shop floor;
4. Oversee the collection and communication around Gift Aid donations and sales;
5. Maintain the look of the store ensuring it is inviting welcoming and displays our furniture and white goods encourage sales and make best use of the floor space;
6. Oversee our online sales, ensuring we offer high standards and have excellent procedures in place for communicating and delivering on eBay, Facebook, Instagram and other platforms;
7. Monitor and report on store performance to funders, regulators and to the Leadership Team;
8. Analyse and interpret performance information to support improvement and development;
9. Work closely with the Team Leader - Warehouse to take advantage of opportunities to increase stock donations and explore new suppliers;
10. Be responsible for the health and safety of the building and the staff;
11. Manage staff performance, rotas, duties, holidays and absences;
12. Work with external partners and colleagues to create opportunities within the store for volunteering and employment for people using our services;
13. Review systems, processes and procedures across the social enterprise including brining in a new till system;
14. Seek out new opportunities to improve the store; attract new donors; and create productive partnerships;
15. Be an active member of national membership organisations to ensure you keep in touch with new policies, developments and training;
16. Ensure our store meets the Revolve standards for the sale of re-use goods;
